Phoenix is 49-12, 6.5 games ahead of the Golden State Warriors and seven games ahead of Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies, who are on the rise.

The Suns hold a commanding lead in the Western Conference, and Paul has played a key role.

The team led by CP3 is fourth in scoring, sixth in points allowed, seventh in rebounds, and fifth in assists in the NBA. Paul is averaging 14.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game, good for third on the squad.

The 6-foot point guard, who is 36 years old, leads the league in assists.

His averages, on the other hand, are unlikely to change in the near future.

CP3 is now unable to play due to a thumb injury.

On Feb. 15, Paul suffered a thumb injury in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers. (There was no foul called on the play, and CP3 was dismissed, which was understandable given that he was not just upset but also in a lot of pain.)

The injury wasn’t revealed until the day before the All-Star Game on Feb. 20, when an uber-competitive Chris, of course, took the court for two minutes regardless.

According to CBSSports, his thumb will be re-evaluated 6-8 weeks after the injury. Paul might return in six weeks, during the week of March 28, and eight weeks, during the week of April 11.

The playoffs start on Saturday, April 16, meaning CP3 will most certainly miss the remainder of the regular season but should be ready for the postseason.

A healthy and rested Chris Paul heading into the playoffs will help Phoenix, given his injury history — particularly at inconvenient moments. The thumb injury may end up being a gift in disguise.

The Suns are good right now, but if they want to win a championship, they’ll need The Point God.

Even without Paul, Phoenix’s huge lead in the West should secure them the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs. The Suns, who reached the NBA Finals last season and return the majority of their core, should be in terrific condition when the playoffs starts.

Throughout the season, the club has been the most consistent in the league. Six different players average double digits in points, and all six were part of Phoenix’s rotation in last year’s Finals, when the Suns led the Milwaukee Bucks 2-0.
