This will be the first Summer Olympics to be held in the US since the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the first since 1984 not to be held in a different city every four years. These games will also mark the return of golf and rugby sevens to the Summer Olympic program after their reintroduction at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In addition, baseball and softball will return to the program after being absent since 2008.

The venues
Los Angeles was selected as the host city for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games on September 13, 2017, winning their bid in a vote by the International Olympic Committee. It will be the third time that Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics, having previously done so in 1932 and 1984.
There are currently 28 sports contested at the Summer Olympics. The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo will see baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing make their debuts as Olympic sports. There is a possibility that break dancing could be added to the line-up for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles as well.
