The 2028 Summer Olympics will be the first Summer Olympics to be hosted in the city of Los Angeles, California. It will mark the return of the Summer Olympics to the United States for the first time since the 1996 Games in Atlanta and will be the third time overall that the Summer Olympics will be held in the country (the first being in St. Louis in 1904). The 2028 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad, are a forthcoming international multi-sport event. The event is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, California, United States from July 21 to August 6, 2028.
This will be the first Summer Olympics to be held in the US since the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the first since 1984 not to be held in a different city every four years. These games will also mark the return of golf and rugby sevens to the Summer Olympic program after their reintroduction at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In addition, baseball and softball will return to the program after being absent since 2008.
The 2028 Olympics
The 2028 Summer Olympics will be the 32nd edition of the Summer Olympics, and is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, United States. This will be the first Summer Olympics to be held in the US since the 1996 Games in Atlanta. The 2028 Olympics will see the addition of a number of new sports to the lineup, as well as the return of some fan-favourites.
With the sports still being contested in the 2020 Olympics, we don’t yet know which sports will debut in Los Angeles in 2028. The official list of sports for the 2028 Olympics has not yet been released by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Some of the sports that are rumored to be under consideration for inclusion in the 2028 Olympics include breakdancing, surfing, skateboarding, baseball, softball, and climbing. The IOC is also considering adding more events to bridge the gap between Olympic Games. This could include e-sports or other competitions that are held every four years but are not currently considered Olympic sports.
While the official list of sports in the 2028 Olympics has not yet been released, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that there will be a total of 33 sports included in the games. This is one more sport than what was featured in the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris, France.

Los Angeles was selected as the host city for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games on September 13, 2017, winning their bid in a vote by the International Olympic Committee. It will be the third time that Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics, having previously done so in 1932 and 1984.
There are currently 28 sports contested at the Summer Olympics. The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo will see baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing make their debuts as Olympic sports. There is a possibility that break dancing could be added to the line-up for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles as well.
