Dom Sibley tons set to lead England fightback on day two
Dom Sibley hammered his first Test century since joining Warwickshire in 2012 to put England in a strong position on day one of the second Test against Sri Lanka.

England were bowled out for417, with Sibley hitting 133, while skipper Joe Root (77) and Dan Lawrence (59) both made half-centuries. Niroshan Dickwella top-scored with 95 for Sri Lanka.

The hosts then had a disastrous start to their reply as they slumped to 10-2 at stumps, still 407 runs behind. Dimuth Karunaratne was dismissed for a second-ball duck and Kusal Mendis for just three as England’s seamers got the ball to jag around under the floodlights.

England had earlier been given a solid platform by their top three batsmen, with Sibley’s partner Rory Burns making 61 before he was lbw playing across Rangana Herath. Herath also accounted for Lawrence, who was given out caught behind despite appearing to get an inside edge, as Sri Lanka struck twice in quick succession.
