In 2007, Vernon Davis signed a five-year, $39.5 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers, which at the time was the most expensive contract in NFL history for a tight end. In the last month, Vernon Davis and I had the privilege of discussing his upcoming autobiography, The Vernon Davis Story , which will be released on October 8th. We discussed his upbringing, his journey through the NFL, his charity work, how he was able to handle the pressure of being one of the most highly compensated players in the league, and much more.
Vernon Davis as a tight end was a big part of the San Francisco 49ers’ resurgence under Jim Harbaugh in early 2010.While Rob Gronkowski easily leads the tight end rankings when healthy, Davis is not far behind. He did an excellent job as a receiver and was more than adequate as a blocker. However, the former Pro Bowler wants people to know him for more than his touchdowns on national television.
Davis hopes he will be remembered more for his acting career than for playing in the NFL

If you run into Davis on the court, don’t ask him about playing with Colin Kapernick or how he beat Aaron Rodgers in the postseason. He doesn’t want to hear it.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Davis talked about his burgeoning acting career. The 37-year-old actor previously worked with Bruce Willis and John Malkovich after retiring after the 2019 season.
Davis believes the work will speak for itself and change his reputation and legacy for years to come.
Eventually, I will probably appear in so many projects that people will get used to seeing me as an actor and forget about me as a player. I think when you look at Terry Crews and The Rock, you see them, but you don’t see them as athletes because you see them in such different projects. Maybe it’ll happen to me.

Dwayne Scala Johnson is a wrestling legend who also played linebacker at the University of Miami in the early 1990s. Crews played halfback for several NFL teams from 1991 to 1996.
This could be tough after Davis has had a great NFL career
Davis can only hope that his acting career goes so well that people only know him for his roles. Johnson did it, and he’s one of the most popular stars on the planet.
But it won’t be easy, given his successful NFL career. Even those too young to have seen Johnson wrestle in the 90s probably know his WWF past.
Davis won a Pro Bowl in his youth and scored 63 touchdowns in 14 seasons. He played in two Super Bowls and scored another seven touchdowns in the postseason. This is a man who made nearly $79 million in the NFL for a reason.
It’s easy to forget that Crews played in the NFL because he was a reserve who moved through the league. And yes, many younger viewers who know Johnson from the movies may not yet know he was a wrestler. But even if he gets to play in blockbusters or follow former running back Thomas Jones into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, people will always know after seeing Davis that he is a former tight end of the 49ers.
Davis already has some interesting projects
Having been involved in several projects during his playing career, Mr. Davis is now retiring from the entertainment industry.
Davis and Willis have collaborated for two films,A Day to DieandGasoline Alley, which will open in February 2022. The Pro Bowl winner starred alongside Malkovich inChariot, which has no release date yet. Davis said he has three other films in post-production.

Although Davis plans to make a name for himself more by acting than by playing football, he has already done the right thing by taking on as much work as possible. Scala became the highest paid actor in the world and starred in every movie, even if the critics didn’t like the movie. The less said about Baywatch, the better.
