How to Get the Bug Net | Skyward Sword Bird Feather
To get bird feathers, you’ll need a bug net, so go to Beedle’s store.

Bird Feathers for Skyward Sword | How to Get Bird Feathers
When you return to Faron Woods, choose the woodland bird statue and you’ll be greeted by a swarm of birds.
Getting a bird feather, on the other hand, is a bit of a hassle. The birds will flee at the least movement, so make sure your net is oriented correctly.
Tilt the right stick (or your Joy-Con if you’re using motion control) to the right and down slightly so the net is facing away from you. Slowly approach a bird until your net is only inches from from it, then swiftly shift the stick (or Joy-Con) to the side.
In the process, you should capture a feather.
If you miss or desire a second or third feather, leave the area and return after the birds have respawned. Running up the log shortcut to the right of the bird statue (not the one immediately next to it) and down the sandy hill is the quickest route. Return to the top of the hill, and the birds should reappear in the clearing.
A flock also spawns on the grounds of the Sealed Temple.
What are Bird Feathers Used For in Skyward Sword?
If you happen to catch a bird feather while fooling about, you may use it to improve your Shield of the Sacred, which you can get in the Bazaar after fighting the Imprisoned. To improve the shield, go to the Scrap Shop in the Bazaar.

Blue bird feathers come from blue birds (surprise!). In Faron Woods or the Sealed Temple, they appear at random. You may also earn a Blue Bird Feather on Bamboo Island by completing the challenge there with 26 or more cuts, and the Moonlight Merchant sells a blue feather for 300 Rupees.
