The world’s best golfer Matt Fitzpatrick had an incredible run at the U.S. Open, winning three of his four rounds and moving into a tie for first place before eventually finishing in fourth place overall. It was all going so well until he saw that Michael Jordan jumped on Twitter to congratulate him—but only after it seemed like everything went wrong for Fitzpatrick following a missed birdie chance during the final round.

When Matt Fitzpatrick checked his phone after winning the 2022 U.S. Open, it must have been an overwhelming experience. His inbox was overflowing with congratulations for his biggest achievement as a professional golfer to date from friends both old and new, other players, and even celebrities.

Most of them he anticipated, but one in particular caught him completely off guard.

Fitzpatrick got a startling email from none other than Michael Jordan shortly after winning his first major title.

Fitzpatrick didn’t have a single professional victory to his record on American soil going into the U.S. Open last week. Although he had eight victories to his name on the European Tour, he was yet to claim his maiden PGA Tour triumph.

Furthermore, why waste your first one on a minor? Fitzpatrick overcame The Country Club at Brookline and won the U.S. Open at 6-under par in his most outstanding performance of his professional career. The Englishman said it was a dream come true after the triumph that would define his career.

Fitzpatrick told reporters, “It’s what you dream of growing up.” It’s something I’ve been working so hard and long on. Everyone often spoke about the large monkey that was attempting to climb up my back at this place. There is nothing greater than doing it as a major for my first victory.

Shortly after making the winning putt, Fitzpatrick had another unexpectedly life-altering incident.

With a text message of congratulations, Michael Jordan shocked Matt Fitzpatrick.

In the hours and days after his U.S. Open victory, Fitzpatrick’s phone must have been vibrating nonstop, but one particular text from the GOAT was a little more special than the rest.

Fitzpatrick said on a recent edition of Barstool Sports’ Fore Play podcast, “I am a member of his golf club down in Florida; he allowed me in, but Michael Jordan did contact me simply saying, “Well done.” “That one really astounded me. It was unbelievable.

Fitzpatrick plays golf at The Grove XXIII, a private club owned by Jordan in Hobe Sound, Florida, but he never imagined that Jordan would send him a text of congratulations. But because this is now his life as a big champion, he had well get accustomed to it.
