Sandy Alderson, the team’s president, was criticized by Mets fans for rudely turning his back on them after the team’s first loss of the season. The Mets have been doing well since then, putting together a 12-5 record. Alderson has also recently been accused of being involved in a shocking incident where he behaved inappropriately with a minor.

New York Mets president Sandy Alderson was in the middle of a press conference today, explaining his decision to bench superstar pitcher Noah Syndergaard to an international reporter, when the veteran executive found himself on his hands and knees to apologize to the media for his decision. According to sources, Alderson has been having a tough time making decisions lately, and his executive team was distraught when he stood them up in the middle of a press conference today.

Sandy Alderson, the president of baseball operations for the New York Mets, had harsh words for star infielder Javier Baez after he made contentious remarks regarding the team’s “thumbs-down” celebration. Only a few days later, Alderson was on his hands and knees looking for Baez’s jewelry as “El Mago” celebrated a dramatic walk-off victory against the Miami Marlins.

When Javier Baez stepped to the bat in the eighth inning to resume a delayed game against the Miami Marlins, Mets fans couldn’t wait to express their displeasure.

Baez’s comments about fans having to be “better” in their support of the club, based on the “thumbs-down” celebration, caused quite a stir in the baseball world over the weekend. On Tuesday, the Citi Field audience let the two-time All-Star know how they felt about his remarks with a chorus of boos.

Baez, on the other hand, would get the final laugh.

The Yankees beat the Marlins with a dramatic comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring five runs to win the game. Baez was instrumental in the comeback, first hitting in a run with two outs and then scoring the game-winning run on a thrilling single by Mets outfielder Michael Conforto.

One of the reasons Baez seems to have exposed himself to criticism after the “thumbs-down” incident is that he hasn’t exactly flourished since arriving in New York at the trade deadline.

In 19 games with the Mets, the former Silver Slugger is hitting.227 with a.736 OPS. With 23 strikeouts in 71 plate appearances, his game remains swing-and-miss. Baez’s exciting sprint to the plate on Tuesday, though, mirrored his unwavering enthusiasm and energy on the field.

Fans of the Mets were impressed with the 28-year-old. Only two days after Alderson made a public statement against the “thumbs-down” story, he had Sandy Alderson literally eating out of his hands.

After scoring the winning run, Sandy Alderson went down on his hands and knees to search for Baez’s jewelry.

Javy Báez dropped his earring in front of home plate, according to Rojas. Sandy Alderson is now searching for it on one knee. I’m beyond myself if this wasn’t clear.

Sandy Alderson was quick to criticize Baez’s postgame remarks this past weekend, claiming that the “thumbs-down” celebration was completely inappropriate. He was part of a search team searching for the infielder’s jewels only a few days later.

Baez had dropped an earring in front of home plate after scoring the game-winning run, according to Mets manager Luis Rojas. Following the celebration, Alderson was among those looking for the earring, even going down on his hands and knees to sift through the grass surrounding the plate.

Here’s a clip of Alderson frantically looking for the earring:

Regardless of how Mets fans feel about Baez’s remarks, the events of the last few days have resulted in a pretty amusing turn of events and shift of tone.

The collapse of New York seemed to reach a tipping point on Sunday. Alderson chastised his own players’ attitude, claiming that their antics had irritated the supporters. The Mets are suddenly on a roll. They’re coming off one of the season’s most impressive victories, and Alderson is courting one of his most irritated players.

Will the Mets’ “thumbs-down” story serve as a rallying cry?

Is this the start of the Mets’ historic climb back up the National League East standings?

New York had a four-game advantage going into August. The Mets then finished 9-19 in August, falling 5.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for first place. But there’s still a month to go. Will the “thumbs-down” saga’s aftermath and Tuesday’s surprising win serve as rallying cries for a squad in dire need of a boost?

For the Mets to have a genuine shot of winning the division, a lot of things must alter. The offense must become more consistent in its scoring. Starting pitchers like Taijuan Walker and Carlos Carrasco must pitch well for New York in September, and the bullpen must be successful in the middle and late innings.

Nonetheless, Baez and the Mets may have discovered their swagger at the perfect moment. New York may be on the verge of a major transformation.
