Who was Khris Middleton? A former three-star recruit who played four years at Georgia Tech before being drafted by the Boston Celtics in 2013. He signed a lucrative four-year $20 million contract the following summer, but his career quickly fizzled out. Despite averaging 6.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game over the course of the season, Middleton was barely a factor. He was waived by the Celtics in 2014, being replaced by a rookie from Providence named Isaiah Thomas.
Born in 1984, Khris Middleton is an American professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks. He is one of the most successful players in the NBA, having won a championship with the Golden State Warriors and winning the 2018 NBA Rookie of the Year award. These days, he is a part of the Milwaukee Bucks, whom the NBA recently announced as the best team in the league. During a recent interview with ESPN, Khris Middleton was asked about his net worth and it was revealed that he has made $120 million in his NBA career.
In the spring of 2016, after the Cleveland Cavaliers’ much-hyped draft pick, forward/guard James “Zo” Johnson, a.k.a. “Zo” Johnson, Jr., was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, he was asked which player he would like to pick up next. “Khris Middleton,” he responded. When you think of the modern Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo is probably the first name that comes to mind. The Greek Freak may be the big star of the team, but he can’t do it alone. That’s where Chris Middleton comes in.
Being a second option on an NBA team doesn’t seem like the greatest accomplishment, but his place on the depth chart hasn’t stopped Middleton from making a lot of money. During his time in the Association, the sharpshooter earned $120 million, which he used to own professional basketball.

In today’s NBA, it’s not enough to have just one top player on the roster; a dynamic duo, or ideally a Big Three, is almost a requirement to compete for the championship. While Middleton is not one of the best players in the league, that dynamic has made him a lot of money.
After graduating from Texas A&M, Middleton transferred to the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft. The diminutive striker didn’t make much of an impression in the Motor City though, spending his time between the Association and the D-League. After that quiet freshman campaign, the Pistons sent him to Milwaukee in a trade for Brandon Jennings.
At Wisconsin, Middleton has reached his level. After two successful seasons, he has shown enough to earn a five-year, $70 million contract extension. But the striker didn’t leave it at that. He has continued to improve and become more valuable with each campaign.
When Giannis Antetokounmpo became a star, Middleton became a legitimate number two option. Despite the Greek Freak’s power, he can’t shoot well from beyond the arc. Middleton is a good shooter, making Milwaukee’s offense more balanced.
That valuable role earned the striker another promotion for the 2019-20 season, and he signed a five-year, $177.5 million contract. That brings Middleton’s historic NBA income through the 2020-21 season to just under $121 million; when his current contract expires, his salary will have surpassed $234 million.

With professional athletes making more and more money, it has become quite normal to read about all kinds of exorbitant and impulsive purchases. Middleton, meanwhile, has decided to use some of his NBA earnings to own a professional basketball club.
In April 2021, it was announced that Middleton had become co-owner of the Brisbane Bullets, a team that plays in the Oceania National Basketball League (NBL). While the exact terms of the deal have not been disclosed – we don’t know how much the Bucks forward has invested or how much of the team he owns – both parties seem happy with the deal.
Chris has thousands of opportunities to invest money in different sectors, so we are excited to have him on our team, Bullets’ principal owner Kevin Martin said in an official statement. Although he still has 10 years to play in the NBA, this opportunity will allow him to be a part of a professional basketball player’s journey in one of the most coveted places in the world.
I am very pleased to announce that I will be joining the Bulletts’ ownership group, Middleton added. I was in Australia with Team USA in 2019 and saw firsthand the passion Australians have for basketball. Basketball is constantly evolving, especially on a global level, and the Bulletts are a team with incredible potential to grow both on and off the court.
John Wall has acquired a stake in the Southeast Melbourne Phoenix basketball team, which plays in the Australian NBL.
NBA players who have invested in the NBL include:

To most North American NBA fans, the NBL is nothing more than a minor league on the other side of the world. But for those with millions of dollars, this is a chance to own a basketball club.
Middleton isn’t the only NBA player to have bought an NBL team. Kevin Martin, the aforementioned principal owner of the Bulletts, was in the league for a decade. Thaddeus Young also co-owns Brisbane, while John Wall, Zach Randolph, Al Harrington, Victor Oladipo and Sean Marion have varying interests in other teams in the league.
In the end, it all comes down to the market price. Someone like Chris Middleton may have millions in the bank, but he hasn’t reached the level of an NBA owner. That’s where the NBL comes in.
You have to be a billionaire to own an NBA team, Martin explained in a 2019 ESPN article. And none of us are billionaires.
