Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is never short on words, and after the team’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers he decided to speak out about one of their most recent acquisitions: Ben Simmons.
The question some were asking was why Simmons rubbed a lot of fans in Philadelphia the wrong way with his mannerisms during games…and it seems like Embiid may actually know something.
“I kind of understand,” he said when asked if Simmons rubs him or other players up the wrong way with his antics on court.. “He does things because that’s what we do here.”
Simmons has earned criticism for his lack of defense at times, but it looks like this time around there isn’t anything else to talk about.
The 76ers have been struggling this season and fans are blaming Ben Simmons for the team’s problems. Joel Embiid, who is also a 76er, says that he “kind of understands” why Simmons rubbed some fans the wrong way. Read more in detail here: ben simmons blames fans.
The Philadelphia 76ers had a tumultuous summer and a rocky start to the NBA season in 2021. The majority of it concerned disgruntled All-Star Ben Simmons and his tumultuous relationship with the franchise. Simmons fell out of favor with the fans after a dismal postseason run. As a consequence, Joel Embiid has been bombarded with inquiries concerning the future of his running companion.
While many Sixers supporters seemed to have given up on Simmons, they welcomed Embiid wholeheartedly. The 28-year-old power forward is the franchise’s undisputed leader and face. Simmons was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Brooklyn Nets, officially finishing that phase of the process.
Embiid has a notion about why the fans turned on Simmons now that he is no longer the No. 1 overall selection.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ future looked to be in good hands when Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid were partnered together. Both players, notably Simmons, came into the NBA with a lot of fanfare. The two spent four seasons together, each reaching the playoffs.
The 76ers were never able to go over the hump. In 2020, Doc Rivers’ team won the Eastern Conference but lost in the conference semifinals against the Atlanta Hawks. Simmons had a forgettable series in which he came up short in a number of key occasions.
For 76ers supporters, Simmons’ poor performance looked to be the last straw. Joel Embiid recently talked with former teammate J.J. Redick on The Old Man and the Three on why the fans had had enough of Simmons.
Embiid said, “I believe that was more so they didn’t feel like it would hurt.” “You have no idea how much they wanted him to shoot the ball, how badly they wanted him to improve.” They also believed that there was no progress from year one to whatever year he was in. That’s the way it is, and I sort of get it.”
“When you go back over the years, what was the most important thing they wanted him to accomplish?” Make three-pointers or free throws. In general, shooting. “I believe they believed he had been there for such a long time and there had been no changes.”
The MVP contender continues to praise his former colleague as a player.

Despite the fact that Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons didn’t get along in Philadelphia, the 76ers center has no grudges towards his former teammate (at least, not publicly).
During the playoffs, Simmons clearly buckled under the strain. Embiid, on the other hand, feels that the new Nets star has a great future in the NBA.
Embiid stated, “He’s a tremendous basketball player.” “On the basketball floor, he accomplishes so much that everyone should pay notice.”
Simmons, according to the three-time All-NBA selection, embraced Philadelphia as much as he could, contrary to common thought.
Embiid said, “I believe he welcomed them.” “I’m not sure whether they thought he was sincere or not. But I get the impression he accepted them.
Since joining the league, Ben Simmons has unquestionably improved as a defender. He may still be a member of the 76ers if he made an attempt to improve his jump shooting.
After the early-season controversy, Philadelphia has to make a statement in the playoffs.

The Ben Simmons drama kept the 76ers in the news throughout the summer. The two-time NBA All-Defensive Team pick seemed to be looking for a way out of Philly. James Harden, coincidentally, became dissatisfied with his situation in Brooklyn. Daryl Morey, the team’s general manager, reached an agreement with the Nets to swap the two players.
Early in the post-Simmons era, the Sixers looked excellent. Harden and Joel Embiid soon formed a bond. The impetus, though, has already faded. It hasn’t been all rainbows and sunshine in Philadelphia. Harden hasn’t performed like the great player many expect him to be, while Embiid has continued to play like an MVP contender.
Beyond Harden’s inconsistency, the roster is beginning to reveal fractures. In the transaction, the 76ers gave up a lot. Andre Drummond and Seth Curry were important contributors, and now they’re prospering in Brooklyn.
However, this was the move Philadelphia desired. The stakes are high for Doc Rivers and his crew. They are presently the East’s fourth seed. However, if they continue to play like they have, a first-round departure isn’t out of the question. If it happens, the whole squad will be chastised by Philadelphia supporters.
