During Sunday’s winner-take-all game against the Bucks, the Celtics had an unlikely hero. Grant Williams, who had a strong Game 2 but struggled the remainder of the series, had a career-high 27 points in Boston’s Eastern Conference Finals triumph.

He scored more points than Antetokounmpo and Tatum combined, and he made seven of his 18 three-point attempts. With Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez on the court, the Bucks invited the Celtics to defeat them with their long-range shooting. The Celtics attempted 55 three-pointers and made 22 of them.

The challenge was accepted by Williams. He got heated after making just two of his first seven. They left him vulnerable, and he took advantage of it.

“They’re promoting it, so I may as well take advantage,” Williams remarked, according to ESPN. “As time passed, each one became more at ease.”

Even after those early misses, first-year Celtics coach Ime Udoka encouraged Williams to keep shooting.

Udoka remarked, “I told him to let it fly.” “They’re showing you more contempt now than they did previously in the series.” That was their strategy for him and the other men, to change the focus and force them to attempt to defeat us. You saw it on his first one.

“Basically, I told you to shoot the ball. What other options do you have? Stop crashing into people. “Take the shot they’re throwing at you.”

Williams was given a new moniker by Jaylen Brown, and a warning by Jayson Tatum.

Williams seemed to be obsessed with nicknames. Williams assisted in holding two-time MVP Nikola “the Joker” Jokic to an 8-for-23 shooting night in a regular-season win against the Denver Nuggets. He claimed after the game that he wanted to be known as “Batman.”

“I mean, I’m not sure why Grant wants to be known as Batman,” Tatum remarked after the Nuggets game. “I’m certain I’ll question him on the bus.” Grant was fantastic tonight, and I’m going to name him Grant. “I’m not going to name him Batman.”

Brown suggested Williams was receiving a new moniker after his seven three-pointers on Sunday.

Grant Williams always gives 150% in training! In this particular video he couldn’t leave the gym without going 45/50 from NBA 3PT! After I make changes you can’t go back to OLD HABITS! Brown told Taylor Snow of Celtics.com, “I call him Grant Curry now.”

Tatum issued a warning to Williams, who outscored him with seven three-pointers, while Brown gave him a new moniker.

“I warned him not to grow accustomed to it,” Tatum said.

“But, clearly, we needed it tonight.” He came up huge, played well, and scored 27 points, which is crucial in the playoffs. The individuals that come off the bench must shine in their roles. Grant helped us win Game 7 of the playoffs tonight. “I am overjoyed for him.”

Williams said that he was a touch too hyped up towards the beginning of the game.

“I think your enthusiasm sometimes gets the better of you,” Williams remarked. “I filmed the first one calmly and quickly, but the others seemed hurried.” So after I got comfortable in, I was able to simply knock them down – I took my time with the shots and didn’t hurry them. Even when men flew at me, I took my time and knocked them down.”
