Derek Carr and the Oakland Raiders are facing their biggest competition in the preseason. After a disappointing season last year, the Raiders are hoping to make good with a lot of new faces and a new offense. There is a new stadium in Oakland, and both the team and fans are excited to take that next step. Derek Carr and the Raiders will be playing in Las Vegas this year, and the fans in Oakland are excited to host them.

Derek Carr has made a statement on the team’s preseason game location. During the Raiders preseason game, the quarterback took to the team’s twitter page to announce that he was excited by the opportunity to play in the Sin City.

The Las Vegas Raiders are literally feeling the heat during offseason training. Jon Gruden’s talented Raiders were already on the hot seat after failing to make the playoffs four seasons in a row. But recent events in Las Vegas have taken the pressure to a whole new level.

Raiders changed practice schedule due to high temperatures

Jeffrey Brown/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images Nevada is a desert state, and in the desert it can get very hot in the summer. Raiders fans didn’t have to join Mensa to understand that. But the Raiders won’t risk the heat in Las Vegas. According to Las Vegas Review-Journal, the team held a mini-camp practice at 7:30 a.m. local time due to weather. When they practiced in the afternoon, the Raiders were working in temperatures of nearly 120 degrees. Of course, some on social media wondered why the team couldn’t practice inside. But the Raiders are still in the offseason and have a 90-man roster. The Review-Journal reported that there was not enough room for that many players, either on the full infield or on the half infield.

Teams are much more careful now in hot weather

. When the Raiders moved from California to Nevada, they knew they would have to deal with a hot climate. However, the team deserves credit for spontaneously adapting to the situation and showing up for practice early in the morning. Teams rightly try to avoid as much risk as possible on days when the heat is unbearable or even dangerous. Former Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman Corey Stringer died of heat stroke during the team’s 2001 preseason camp. The heat index reached 99 at 11:30 a.m., the time when testing ended that day. The soccer teams started training with lighter colored shirts and created more water and shade areas during those practices. When the league adopted a new collective bargaining agreement in 2011, it eliminated the two-day, long-standing tradition where, as the name implies, teams trained two or three times in one day.

Derek Carr and the Raiders face tough questions

The Raiders shouldn’t expect the proverbial heat to go away, even if they go to practice in an indoor practice facility. Despite the high hopes of Jon Gruden’s return as head coach prior to the 2018 season, the Raiders have posted a 19-29 record over the past three years. After a 6-3 start in 2020, the Raiders lost five of their last seven games and finished with an 8-8 record. As of June 20, 2021, the Raiders have not yet traded quarterback Derek Carr. However, the team was criticized for some of the measures it took this season, including signing running back Kenyan Drake to a two-year, $14.5 million contract and selecting Alabama offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood in the first round of the NFL Draft. Maybe Gruden knows something his doubters don’t, and will finally get the Raiders back to the postseason. This is a motivated team with a proven quarterback, but that may not be enough in a talented AFC. Don’t be surprised if Gruden has fun with the press when he proves them wrong. However, we advise him not to leave them in the heat of June. Like Sportscasting on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter @sportscasting19 .
