Antonio Brown, one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, is a free agent and deciding where he will play football next season. Brown, who was first introduced to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, caused a sensation last week when he signed a three-year, $15 million contract with his former team. Why did Brown go to a team that has its two best weapons, quarterback Jameis Winston and receiver Mike Evans, leaving him and the Patriots? What about the possibility of playing with Rob Gronkowski? Or maybe a better team in New England?
Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are known as the best quarterback-coach combo in the NFL, but that didn’t stop them from giving Antonio Brown special treatment when it came to his new team. The Patriots were reluctant to release Brown, but they finally relented when the Steelers told them to please do it. The Patriots were rumored to be the frontrunners for Brown’s services, but the Bucs beat them to the punch.
Antonio Brown, one of the league’s best wide receivers, joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday after agreeing to a two-year contract. He had been trying to get a deal done with the Oakland Raiders, but the team declined to give him the new contract he wanted. Instead, the Buccaneers stepped in and signed the three-time Pro Bowler. The deal includes $14 million guaranteed, according to ESPN. The Bucs also added Brown’s Raiders teammate, defensive end Bruce Irvin.
At one point, it looked like Antonio Brown would never play in the NFL again. However, after playing just one game in 2019 and serving an eight-game suspension in 2020, Brown signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, with whom he won the Super Bowl late in the year. But he might not have won that championship if he hadn’t first received the support of Tom Brady’s two other superstar arms: Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
Antonio Brown won the Super Bowl with Tom Brady and the Buccaneers
Due to issues on and off the field, Brown – a seven-time Pro Bowl winner – has only played in one NFL game in 2019. He played in that one game with Brady and the New England Patriots.
The NFL then suspended Brown for eight games in 2020 for violating the personal conduct policy, but he reunited with Brady in October by signing a one-year contract with the Buccaneers.
Brown played in eight games for the Bucks last season. He caught 45 passes for 483 yards and four touchdowns. Then he caught a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl to help the Buccaneers to a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Buccaneers asked Mike Evans and Chris Godwin for permission first

The Buccaneers recently released episode 3 of in the latest , a series that looks ahead to the 2020 season when the team wins the Super Bowl. The latest episode is about Brown’s signing with the Bucks and tells what happened behind the scenes when the transfer became official.
Bruce [Arians] and I have both said to Tom that we will look to him if we need him at some point, Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said during the episode. Then we had injuries to the receivers, some of our best players with Mike, with Chris.
Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians said he approached Brady’s main weapon, 2019 Pro Bowl players Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, before the team signed Brown.
I asked their opinion to see if we needed it, Arians said.
Evans detailed this conversation with Arians.
He said: I have to ask you and Chris if you don’t mind AB joining the team, Evans said. I said: This is not a problem.
Godwin also had a good first impression of Brown at the time, which probably helped a lot.
I think when he walked into the waiting room, he was very, very humbled, Godwin said. To see him put on that weight and be so humble and really want to work to earn the role he’s destined for is truly amazing.
As mentioned above, the maneuver worked: Brown helped the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl. But it also allowed Brown to get an extended stay in Tampa.

Brown’s play with the Buccaneers in 2020 led to him agreeing to a one-year contract with the team for the 2021 season.
After earning just $1.25 million last year, according to Spotrac, his new contract will be worth up to $6.25 million, including $3.1 million guaranteed, reports NFL.com.
His arrival will help the Buccaneers bring back a core of last season’s championship team. But not only does Brown and other stars like Godwin and Evans return, but so do Tampa Bay’s 22 starters in 2020. The team also re-contracted Leonard Fournette and added Giovani Bernard, who could be another weapon for Brady in the backfield.
The Buccaneers certainly have the talent to win a second consecutive Super Bowl in 2021, and Brown is a guy who can play a crucial role in that. Godwin and Evans probably made the right decision by bringing AV onto the team. This makes their attack virtually unstoppable.
