Marc Gasol is a 36-year-old NBA veteran who has been living in China this season, but the former All Star could be playing professional basketball again next year. The Memphis Grizzlies are interested in bringing him back on a one-year contract for financial reasons, and the Spurs have also shown interest.
The “gasol lakers” is a player who has been playing in the NBA for almost a decade. He is 36 years old and isn’t closing the door on an NBA comeback just yet.
Marc Gasol has progressed to the next stage of his career. The veteran center returned to his native country of Spain to play for Bàsquet Girona after a disastrous season with the Los Angeles Lakers, and it seemed that his NBA career was effectively over at that moment.
However, Gasol frankly revealed in a recent interview that his NBA career may not be finished yet, and that some clubs would be interested in bringing him in for a championship run.

Gasol was a top NBA center once upon a time. In a six-year stretch from 2012 to 2017, he appeared in three All-Star Games, was chosen an All-NBA player twice, and earned the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Since departing the Memphis Grizzlies in 2019, he hasn’t been the same player.
Last season, Gasol averaged 5.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game for the Lakers, which were by far his lowest statistics in his long career. Gasol took a backseat in the rotation when Anthony Davis went down and LA signed Andre Drummond to fill the void.
The Lakers chose not to bring Gasol back for another season after he only played 17.4 minutes per game in the playoffs last year. In September, the Lakers dealt the center back to the Grizzlies, and Memphis released him so he could return to Spain and play professionally.
Gasol isn’t ruling out a return to the NBA.

Gasol didn’t look like an NBA player in the last months of last season, but the 36-year-old isn’t ruling out a comeback. Gasol said in a recent interview with Cadenaser (which was translated into English by Sportando) that there is interest in bringing him back to the NBA.
“They know I haven’t closed the door in the NBA,” he remarked. “Now I wanted to do this thing (play in Girona), and they got it, possibly better than many Spaniards.” The door isn’t shut; I’m not saying I’ll go back or that I’m assessing it, but I know they’re interested… for the time being, I’m focused on Girona.”
He may be pleased to play in Spain for the time being, but it would be difficult for him to say no if a club called and offered him a solid salary for the remainder of the season.

Gasol wanted to play in his native country while he was still able to compete at a high level, but he believes he is ready to return to the NBA after a few months away.
“Time is the most valuable resource we have.” We have a limited amount of time, and each of us must determine how to use it. I decided to devote this time to a city that helped me through tough times in sport when I first began my career at the age of 21.”
It never hurts to add another veteran to a playoff push, so don’t be shocked if Gasol receives a call from a contender in the coming months.
