Once again, WWE brings NXT to international audiences for the second ever Takeover event to take place outside of the USA. While it may not be as far away as London was you’ll still need a passport to see it live if you want to. The event promises to be very exciting and full of match of the year candidates (as is the case with most Takeover events). The event also sees the return of former WWE Women’s champ Mickie James who will be taking on the undefeated Asuka for the NXT Women’s championship. Bobby Roode will also be making his hometown return as he takes on the perfect 10 Tye Dillinger. #DIY looks to get revenge on The Revival in a 2 out of 3 falls match for the NXT Tag Team titles (my match of the night pick, potential spoiler!). The Authors of Pain meet TM61 in the finals of the Dusty Rhodes tag team classic tournament and Samoa Joe looks to reclaim his NXT championship from the king of strong style Shinsuke Nakamura in the night’s main event. Here is who I think will walk out of Toronto victorious.
Bobby Roode vs Tye Dillinger
While I don’t expect this match to be a match of the year candidate, I do expect this match to be nothing short of amazing. Dillinger has come a long way since being a lackluster talent in the back of the line in NXT just one short year ago. His Perfect 10 gimmick pops the crowd so much that it almost reminds you of the Yes! Movement. Of course the glorious Bobby Roode has made such an impact since appearing at NXT Takeover: Dallas in April. His theme music is probably the best thing any WWE fan has ever heard and you can’t help but sing a long when he makes his way down the ramp. Roode is a seasoned vet and in his hometown of Toronto he will get the win over Tye Dillinger. Dillinger has been in NXT for what seems like forever and I believe a main roster call up is in order for the Perfect 10. Dillinger also doesn’t really need to win here as it doesn’t seem like he’ll be getting a push anytime soon. Fingers crossed on Dillinger ending up on Smackdown.
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Final: The Authors of Pain vs TM61
I’ll be honest, I’m a HUGE fan of both teams. I know the Authors of Pain look like your generic WWE big men and they may not be the best wrestlers on the roster but I like how they could be built as the next Road Warriors. Rezar and Akam may look like Braun Strowman type guys but the good thing about their team is they actually make sense. They remind me of how the Ascension was and how they should’ve been booked. The Aussie team of TM61 has impressed me so much that they have quickly become one of my favorite tag teams. Nick Miller and Shane Thorne are amazing in the ring and their talent is unparalleled. They could be one of the pieces that brings a tag team revolution to the WWE, they’re that good. This is a tough one to call but I believe that TM61 will get an upset win here. I like to see a good underdog story come out of this and hopefully TM61 are raising the Dusty Rhodes trophy by night’s end. Side Note: Kudos to WWE for having two legit teams in the tourney final this time around as opposed to two thrown together tag teams. This tournament was meant to put a specific team over and we shall see who that team will be.
2 out of 3 falls match for the NXT Tag Team championship: #DIY vs The Revival
While I previously said that I’m a huge fan of both TM61 and the Authors of Pain, I’m probably the biggest #DIY fan out there right now! Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are two guys that I would like to see fight forever. Their match in the Crusierweight Classic was borderline match of the year worthy and they are even better as a tag team. They are getting their rematch against The Revival after they failed to capture the NXT tag titles at Takeover: Brooklyn 2. If you recall, that match was match of the night and even a strong candidate for match of the year so as good as that match was this one will be even better. The Revival have paid their dues in NXT and they are another example of wrestlers being in NXT for a bit too long. They should be called up to the main roster in the near future so with that said I am going with #DIY to walk out of Toronto as the new NXT Tag Team champs. This match is going to be hard hitting and wrestling displayed at the highest level, I expect nothing less.
NXT Women’s championship: Asuka vs Mickie James
It was a total out of left field move by WWE when they announced Mickie James would return to battle Asuka for the NXT Women’s title. I guess they needed someone big to face the undefeated champion because some NXT officials didn’t see Ember Moon, Billie Kay or Peyton Royce as legit challengers to Asuka’s title. I’m not complaining with having James return here. She is one of the best women’s wrestlers ever and her and Asuka should have an amazing match. It would obviously make no sense to put the title on James as she is only returning for what seems like one match. Asuka is going to pick up the win in a pure women’s wrestling match that every fan should enjoy.
NXT championship: Shinsuke Nakamura vs Samoa Joe
As much as I would like to sit here and ramble about how much of a hard hitting brawl this is going to be, I’m going to keep this one short and simple because we all know who’s going to win here. It just wouldn’t make sense to crown Samoa Joe champ again because he has done all that he can in NXT. His main roster call up is imminent and what better way to go out then with a match against Shinsuke Nakamura. I believe it’s going to take a couple kinshasa’s to keep Joe down for the three count and unlike their last match I expect blood to be shed here. Like I said it will be a hard hitting brawl but in the end Nakamura will walk out victorious.
That is who I think will win but here is who the rest of the STF Wrestling Department thinks win
Jesse: Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, #DIY, TM61, Bobby Roode
Szabo: Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, The Revival, TM61, Bobby Roode
Patrick: Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, The Revival, TM61, Bobby Roode
Zack: Shinsuke Nakamura, Mickie James via DQ, #DIY, TM61, Bobby Roode
Colin: Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, #DIY, TM61, Bobby Roode
Justin: Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, #DIY, Authors of Pain, Bobby Roode
Annabelle: Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka (non-clean finish), #DIY, TM61, Tye Dillinger
