WWE Fastlane 2017 Preview

By Patrick Cheeseman

With Fastlane this Sunday, the stage will be set for Wrestlemania. As we approach Fastlane, there are many questions still to answer: Why did KO turn on Y2J? Will we see a new Evolution with KO and Samoa Joe? Will Goldberg win on Sunday and get the title? These questions may not be answered on Sunday, but at least they will make it interesting.

Rich Swann and Akira Tozawa vs. The Brian Kendrick and Noam Dar.

With the reign of Neville as king of the Cruiserweights, the Cruiserweight division has been more interesting. I find this match to be strange though. While there is a feud between Kendrick and Tozawa, I’m not sure why Swann and Dar are in this match as well. However, these four are four of the six top Cruiserweights in the division, and will put on a spectacular match. It’s even possible that this will set up a Cruiserweight title match at Mania. Not sure how, but it probably will.

Winner: Swann and Tozawa.

Neville vs. Jack Gallagher for the Cruiserweight Title

Gallagher is becoming my favorite Cruiserweight in the division. His character and ability is outstanding. Neville has always been a phenomenal talent. Him turning heel has done wonders for his career. The tension between the king and the character have been great. While I want Gallagher to win, I believe Neville will pull it out, which will then set up a huge Cruiserweight match at Mania.

Winner: Neville

Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax

This feud feels like it’s been going on forever, and hopefully comes to an end on Sunday. Nia is a dominant force much like Awesome Kong and Beth Phoenix. She has proven that she can withstand anything, and will do everything to win. Sasha Banks has lived up to her BOSS moniker, and has a bright future remaining (assuming no serious injuries come her way). I expect this match to be a strong match, but not a long one. Given that Nia won the last one, I feel that Sasha will find a way to win this one.

Winner: Sasha

Bayley vs. Charlotte for the Raw Womens Title

Given that they keep playing up Charlotte’s undefeated pay-per-view streak, I expect her to win this match. Bayley is my favorite on the Raw women’s roster, and watching her win the title was a great moment. The fact that they keep playing hot potato with the title is not ideal at all. Charlotte is obviously the top female wrestler on the roster, hands down. I expect her to lose at Wrestlemania, but win at Fastlane. Bayley has been a great talent to watch, and her story of fan-to-wrestler is a great one. As long as Dana Brooke stays FAR, FAR AWAY from this match, it should be a great match, with Charlotte getting the title back.

Winner: Charlotte

Sami Zayn vs. Samoa Joe:

Are we all familiar with Samoa Joe and how great he is? Good. Because he is going to win this match. Zayn is an outstanding talent, with so much upside that he can afford losses here and there. He needs a title run soon though, as he has been without one for too long. Samoa Joe is a beast. His matches in TNA and ROH are incredible. The Muscle Buster is a great finisher, and hopefully he busts it out in this match. Given that Samoa Joe is Triple H’s muscle, we can expect a dominate performance to prove a point. This will be a dark horse great match I feel. Both have much talent and will be great in this match.

Winner: Samoa Joe

Gallows and Anderson vs. Enzo and Cass for the Raw Tag Team Titles

Enzo and Cass haven’t won tag titles ever. Let that sink in. They probably won’t win at Fastlane. I believe their win is reserved for Wrestlemania. Gallows and Anderson have been less than stellar as tag team champs. That is terrible given how good they both are. They lost two matches to Roman Reigns in 2-on-1 matches. That doesn’t help their stock at all. But I expect them to bounce back. Enzo and Cass, like Sami Zayn, have too much upside to not be successful. I fully expect them to win the titles once before they split up, if they do. and that win will be at Wrestlemania.

Winner: Gallows and Anderson

Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman

If this match ends up leading to Reigns vs. Taker like everyone says, I will not be happy. Strowman has really come into his own in the WWE, and will be great in the future. It’s just a shame that he has to lose to Reigns at Fastlane. Strowman is the total package for a big man. Strong, agile, and intimidating. He is the perfect monster for Raw. Reigns is supposed to be Superman. As stated earlier, he beat Gallows and Anderson twice in 2-on-1 matches. We get that he will win, doesn’t mean we have to like it.

Winner: Reigns

Kevin Owens vs Goldberg for the Raw Universal Title

This will be an interesting match. There are many possible outcomes to it. KO could win clean. Goldberg could win clean. Y2J could interfere. Lesnar could interfere. The one that hopefully happens is Y2J interferes and Goldberg wins the title as a result. Having Goldberg vs Lesnar for the title would be great. KO is the top heel on Raw, and will be great for years to come. Given that he is Triple H’s guy, KO will be protected as well. Goldberg doesn’t have much left, so a title run would be nice for him. If the title doesn’t change hands, it will still probably be because of Y2J interference. Lesnar interfering would be out of place I feel. Either way, Goldberg wins.

Winner: Goldberg

Those are my predictions. Here’s what the rest of the team thinks:

Pete: Swann and Tozawa, the Club, Strowman, Joe, Neville, Sasha, Charlotte, Goldberg

Jesse: The Club, Swann and Tozawa, Strowman, Neville, Joe, Charlotte, Sasha, Goldberg by DQ.

Big Guido: Swann and Tozawa, Charlotte, Joe, Nia, Club, Neville, Goldberg, Strowman

Anabelle: Joe, Sasha, Club, Charlotte, Swann and Tozawa, Neville, Reigns, Goldberg

Justin: Nia, Owens, Club, Joe, Charlotte, Swann and Tozawa, Neville, Double Countout/DQ Reigns and Strowman.
