Rundown of UFC on FS1: (#9)Belfort vs (#10)Gastelum

Rundown of UFC on FS1: (#9)Belfort vs (#10)Gastelum

 By the bWoMMA Department

The UFC returns to Brazil for what should be a great card featuring a plethora of great match-ups but more importantly, it should be a night of great fights. The main event features MMA legend and pioneer Vitor Belfort taking on Kelvin Gastelum in a fight that could very well be a changing of the guard. In the co-main event, you’ve got two heavy hitters in a fight that features another MMA legend and pioneer, Shogun Rua as he takes on Gian Villante in what could very well be the fight of the night when it’s all said and done. Also, on the card is Edson Barboza as he continues the quest for a shot at UFC gold when he takes on the always dangerous Beneil Dariush.

In the flyweight division, you’ve got a showdown between two of the world’s when Jussier Formiga takes on Ray Borg in a fight that should propel the winner from one win away at a shot against current champion Demetrious Johnson. The women will also look to make their own noise in Brazil as Brazil’s own Bethe Correia takes on Marion Reneau in a battle between two ranked fighters in the women’s bantamweight division. Other notable fights on the card: Oliveira-Means, Lee-Trinaldo, Moraes-Ramos, Soto-Yahya, Burkman-Prazeres, Jason-Kennedy. It should be a great night of fights Saturday in one of the truly great MMA countries.

UFC on FS1 Main Event

(#9)Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort vs (#10)Kelvin Gastelum

Richard “richie b” Bowman: Gastelum via 2nd round TKO

Analysis: It seems like Vitor Belfort’s best chance at winning this fight will be within the first few minutes, however, Gastelum should be able to weather the early storm and take out the aging Phenom. Look for Belfort to clip Gastelum early but for Gastelum to bounce back and make easy work of the Phenom resulting in a 2nd round TKO victory.

Masked Man: Gastelum via 2nd round TKO

Analysis: Belfort is still main eventing cards. That in itself is phenomenal for the phenom. However, he hasn’t been winning many of these main events that he is headlining and I see this one being no different. He still has elite hand speed but it seems if he doesn’t get you out quickly then he falters. I see Gastelum being able to keep Belfort at bay with his jabs and wrestling ability. Gastelum will be able to control the fight causing Belfort to succumb to his pressure. Gastellum ground and pounds his way to the victory. I do see a caveat being his size in the middleweight division but not in this fight.
