Rundown of UFC 210: Cormier vs Rumble II

bWoMMA Department

UFC 210 is upon us and it features UFC gold as the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion (c)Daniel Cormier takes on (#1)Anthony Johnson in what should be a great fight, this is the second match-up between these two top level fighters with Cormier winning the first match-up. In the co-main event, you’ve got the all-American (#4)Chris Weidman taking on (#5)Gegard Mousasi in a very interesting fight because of where both fighters are in their respective careers. Weidman is currently on a two-fight losing streak while Mousasi is four-fight winning streak and will look to get a title shot with a win against Weidman on Saturday night.

Not to be outdone, the UFC has also given the fans a nice female scrap as Cynthia Calvillo takes on Pearl Gonzalez in a fight that could potentially steal the show. Two heavy hitters in the UFC‘s welterweight division are also set to do battle as the pitbull Thiago Alves takes on the predator Patrick Cote and kicking off the main card there’s Will Brooks vs (#9)Charles Oliveira. The UFC is back after an almost month-long break and they’re returning to New York with a great night of fights.

UFC Light Heavyweight Championship: (c)Daniel “DC” Cormier vs (#1)Anthony “Rumble” Johnson

Justin “Meanie” Szabo: Rumble via 1st round TKO

Analysis: Rumble has a big advantage headed into this bout, he’s been able to dedicate time to defending the takedown. While on the other hand, there isn’t much DC can do to prepare for the onslaught of monstrous bowling ball like fists coming from his opponent. I wouldn’t put it passed the guys at ABA to hit DC in the face with sledgehammers to prepare. Early in the first matchup, Rumble had DC on the ropes early but ultimately wasn’t able to finish the job. With title bout experience and a full camp to prepare, this is Rumble’s fight to lose.

Richard “richie b” Bowman: Daniel Cormier via Glorious Domination

Analysis: If there was ever a time for Rumble to get over the hump then it would be now, he’s fighting an older Cormier, who’s body seems to finally be breaking down. Rumble is still the most dangerous man at 205, he could go up to heavyweight right now and arguably be considered the biggest hitter there. That’s the kind of power Rumble has and while he can definitely put Cormier to sleep, we saw Cormier take Rumble’s best shots in the first fight and not only that but we saw Cormier break Rumble then submit him. Rumble’s best strategy in this fight would probably be to stick and move while throwing to the body and head of Cormier but Rumble has never been one to move, he likes to move forward or invite victims in. Look for Cormier to get past Rumble in this one setting up a rematch with his arch rival Jon Jones in the summer.

Masked Man: Rumble via 1st round KO

Analysis: Rematches are always tough for the person that won the first time to win the second time. They know they can win so maybe they don’t fix the things they should while the fighter who lost could work harder on those things. Of course this not always case. Sometimes one fighter is better than the other, but if that’s not what happens here – Cormier could be in trouble. Johnson is probably the scariest fighter in all of MMA. He hits like a Mack Truck and opponents know at any point Rumble could end their night. I don’t like that’s Cormier missed weight in his first weigh in Friday morning. If he is not coming in at his very best we will have a new champion Saturday night.
