WWE NXT Takeover: Orlando Preview
WWE first ran a Takeover event before a big four pay-per-view last year when NXT took over Dallas, one year later and here we are again. Last year’s event before WrestleMania saw the debut of Shinsuke Nakamura and how ironic is it that this year will be his last Takeover event. Nakamura will try and become a three time NXT champion when he challenges the man who took the belt from him at Takeover: San Antonio, the glorious Bobby Roode. The two superstars will do battle in Orlando while the rest of the card holds its own. The Authors of Pain face their biggest challenge yet when they go up against not one but two former NXT Tag Team champions in The Revival and #DIY, who they took the belts from in San Antonio. Asuka undoubtedly faces her biggest challenge as well as she goes one on one with the dangerous Ember Moon for Asuka’s NXT Women’s title. Andrade “Cien” Almas faces a debuting Aleister Black (fka Tommy End) and Roderick Strong, No Way Jose, Tye Dillinger and Ruby Riot look to put an end to Sanity. Buckle your seatbelts folks because Orlando is in for a Takeover of the NXT variety and here is who I think will walk out victorious.
Roderick Strong, No Way Jose, Tye Dillinger & Ruby Riot vs. Sanity
This match will be very interesting despite a similar match happening on a recent episode of NXT. WWE wants to make Sanity resemble The Shield so there would be no perfect way for them to do that than by destroying their competition. Roderick Strong, No Way Jose and Tye Dillinger form a formidable team but I don’t believe adding the dangerous Ruby Riot will do them any good. I’m going with Sanity to win this one. I think all eight competitors will put on a great match and each superstar will shine on their own. This match does some justice because gets a lot of names on the card. I also feel as though this will be the curtain call for Tye Dillinger as now there really is NO good enough reason to keep him prisoner in NXT, a main roster call up is in the future for The Perfect 10.
Andrade “Cien” Almas vs Alesiter Black
One of the most scariest stars in the world makes his long awaited NXT debut in Orlando against a man who is facing his second consecutive debuting superstar at Takeover events. Alesiter Black is a bad man. He beats people down and makes them regret stepping in the ring with him. He made a huge impact across the pond in the UK going by his former alias Tommy End and was one of the biggest names on the UK wrestling scene now he finally debuts in WWE. His opponent is one of the most underrated talents on the NXT roster. Andrade Almas has gone a bit unappreciated by the NXT universe but he is still a great heel and even a better worker, he really can work with anyone you put him in the ropes with. However, as good as Almas has proven himself to be, I’m going with Aleister Black to win in his debut. I just wouldn’t make sense for a superstar of Black’s caliber to lose their debut match, the only way he does lose is if Almas cheats to win but even still I don’t see that happening.
Triple Threat elimination match for the NXT Tag Team titles: The Authors of Pain vs The Revival vs #DIY
This is by far going to be the match of the night. The three biggest teams in NXT going against each other for the gold sounds like money to me. This match is so big that it could have taken place at WrestleMania had all the teams been on the main roster. We saw the magic The Revival and #DIY worked in Toronto and we also know that The Authors of Pain are exceeding expectations so when you throw all of that in the same pot you get what could be a match of the year candidate. Logically, it makes no sense for AoP to lose here since they just won the titles in San Antonio but I wouldn’t be surprised if #DIY pulls off an upset victory. I am still taking AoP to win this match because their push to the top seems like it has no end and the two giants will continue to destroy their competition. This match will also be the curtain call for The Revival as they too have been in NXT for far too long. All three teams will put in a strong effort but The Authors of Pain will remain your NXT Tag Team champs.
NXT Women’s championship: Asuka vs Ember Moon
Ever since debuting at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II Ember Moon has looked like a serious threat to Asuka’s crown. The Empress of Tomorrow STILL hasn’t been pinned or submitted since debuting in NXT almost two years ago and it has been a full year since she has held the NXT Women’s title. Asuka defeating Bayley at Takeover: Dallas to win the strap and hasn’t let it go since but things are going to change at Takeover: Orlando. I am picking Ember Moon to walk away your new NXT Women’s champ. Some people say she isn’t ready but that isn’t a valid excuse. Her in ring work is impeccable and her finisher has quickly turned into one of my favorites in WWE today. This match should go on for a good period of time since both women will destroy each other. I don’t have any doubt that Asuka will put on an amazing match but it will come in a losing effort. Moon’s victory is going to be huge considering Asuka is basically the woman version of Brock Lesnar in NXT. When Moon is standing tall holding the NXT Women’s title, an eclipse will form over NXT.
NXT Championship: Shinsuke Nakamura vs Bobby Roode
I think any smart wrestling fan knows what is going to happen so I’m keeping this short and sweet here. Bobby Roode is walking out NXT champ, Shinsuke Nakamura has done all he can in NXT, Nakamura will most likely be called up to the main roster the night after WrestleMania and there is no logical reason for him to become a three time NXT champ. Sounds good? Great. Enjoy Nakamura’s last match in NXT because it will be a good one.
Those are my predictions. Here’s what the rest of the team thinks:
Colin: Bobby Roode, Ember Moon, SANitY, AOP, Aliester Black
Zach: Bobby Roode, Ember Moon, DIY, Sanity, Aliester Black
Patrick: Bobby Roode, Ember Moon, Tye Dillinger’s team, AOP, Black
Jesse: Roode, Ember, AOP, Tye and friends, Almas
Justin F: Roode, Ember, AOP, Sanity, Black
