Round #26 in the Barclays Premier League concluded on Monday in Leicester, while Sunday saw a beat-down in North London.
After only six matches on Saturday, Sunday saw Tottenham Hotspur welcome Stoke City to White Hart Lane. Monday saw the final match of the shortened round as Leicester City hosted Liverpool at the King Power Stadium.
Here is a recap of the final two matches of the round, with video highlights of each match in the respective score-line.
Tottenham Hotspur 4 – Stoke City 0
A third hat-trick for striker Harry Kane in his last nine matches in all competitions sparked Tottenham to a convincing home win over Stoke. Kane opened the scoring in the 14th minute as he rifled home to the bottom left corner. In the 32nd minute, Kane rifled home from outside the box this time with his left foot for a 2-0 Spurs lead. Five minutes later, Kane’s right-footed effort deflected in for his hat-trick goal. Dele Alli added a stoppage-time tap-in to make it 4-0 before halftime. Hugo Lloris made three saves in the Tottenham net, while Stoke were unable to muster up much offensively. The victory for Mauricio Pochettino‘s side see them jump to second place, sitting 10 points behind leaders Chelsea. Stoke drop to 10th with the loss.
Leicester City 3 – Liverpool 1
After dropping into the relegation zone over the weekend, Leicester City earned their first league win of 2017 with a dominant performance against Liverpool. With manager Claudio Ranieri getting sacked last Thursday, a lot of people were wondering how Leicester would turn up against a side fighting to remain in the top-four. Jamie Vardy slotted the Foxes in the lead after 28 minutes, as he beat Simon Mignolet to the bottom-right corner. Daniel Drinkwater struck home a beautiful volley from long-range in the 39th minute to make it 2-0 for the hosts before halftime. Vardy extended the lead to 3-0 as he headed home Christian Fuchs‘ cross at the hour mark. Philippe Coutinho netted a consolation goal for the Reds in the 68th minute, but it was too little too late for Jurgen Klopp‘s men. Kasper Schmeichel made six saves for the Foxes and was good in-goal, while Mignolet made four in the defeat. Interim manager Craig Shakespeare will hope the win over a top side can spark the Foxes up the table. Their victory boosts them to 15th in the table, while Liverpool remain in fifth.
Elsewhere, Manchester United hoisted the EFL Cup on Sunday with a 3-2 win over Southampton at Wembley. Arsenal and Manchester City have a match in-hand after seeing their matches postponed.
