After an intriguing day of action in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday, Round #24 concluded on Sunday with two final matches.
Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City hosted Paul Clement‘s Swansea City at the Etihad prior to reigning champs Leicester hosting Manchester United at the King Power Stadium.
Here is a recap of the final two matches from this past weekend’s action, with video highlights of each match included in the respective score-line.
Manchester City made it three consecutive victories in all competitions after fighting back to beat Swansea. Brazilian new-boy Gabriel Jesus put the Citizens in front after 11 minutes, when he slotted home a loose ball in the box. Yaya Toure came close to doubling the hosts lead in the first half, but saw his right footed free-kick palmed away by a diving Lukasz Fabianski. Swansea drew level in the 81st minute when Glyfi Sigurdsson saw his left footed strike beat Willy Caballero to the bottom right corner. However, the Citizens won it late as Jesus tapped home his own rebound in the second minute of stoppage time. The Brazilian’s original header was saved by Fabianski, who couldn’t hold onto the effort which Jesus tapped home easily. Guardiola’s men jump up to third with the win, while Swansea remain in 17th.
Manchester United made it three matches unbeaten in all competitions with a thumping of Leicester at the KP. The visitors were held for most of the first half until a brilliant finish by Henrikh Mkhitaryan made it 1-0 after 42 minutes. The Aremenian’s right footed effort found the top left corner. Two minutes later, Zlatan Ibrahimovic made it 2-0 after he slotted home Antonio Valencia‘s assist past Kasper Schmeichel. Leicester’s woes continued as Juan Mata finished Mkhitaryan’s through-ball for a 3-0 score-line and win. Leicester could only muster one shot-on-target, while United had nine efforts.Leicester’s struggles continued on Sunday, as the reigning champ Foxes are in a relegation fight. If Claudio Ranieri‘s side don’t turn it around soon, they could become the first ever English Champions to be relegated the following season.
Another weekend of Premier League action in the books with Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester City all earning crucial wins at the top. Wins for Everton, West Brom, West Ham, and Watford help their cause in the middle of the table, while Hull and Sunderland earned impressive wins down at the bottom.
